I am so excited that I finally got my dna.ancestry.com results back! I have always wanted to know my ethnicity because my mother was adopted, and my paternal grandfather grew up in an orphanage.
I ordered the kit online and they mailed it to me within one week.
I then followed the instructions and had to spit into the collection tube and mail it back to them.
It took a while to produce enough saliva.
You can't eat, drink, smoke, or chew gum, at least 30 minutes before spitting.
Ewwwwwww so gross! It just felt so wrong LOL

They emailed me when they received my DNA, and said they would email me again when the test results were complete. It took about a total of one month, from the time that I ordered, to the time that I got the results.
I called dna.ancestry.com to have them explain my results in more detail. One thing that I found interesting, is that when they test biological siblings, the percentages could be completely different. For example: My North African result is 1% but it could be 80% in my sisters DNA. So even though we are the same nationality, with the same parents, we each have our own unique genetic makeup.
I am so glad that I did this test! Now I can finally say that I am 95% European, and my dominant nationality is Italian & Greek.
Hello Lisa
ReplyDeleteVery inspiring blog, specially loved the description of your out of body experience.
Found the link to your blog on Ancestry DNA -I just got my results today & found you in my DNA matches.
Apparently there is a moderate chance that we are 5th-8th cousins.
I'm Australian & live in Adelaide, South Australia. My ethnic background is Italian, Maltese & Greek. My DNA suggests more diversity. Thank you for sharing your experiences through your blog.
Kind regards
Norma
